I hate networking events. I hate networking in general. It is so darn uncomfortable to try and graciously give and take elevator pitches for hours on end from and to people you are unlikely to ever see again. Be that as it may, I am not blind to the fact that the sort of performance capital (e.g. excellence, personal brand etc.) that I am more comfortable with and, consequently, tend to talk about more on this blog, can only take you so far. I always chuckle when I hear someone say they are “self-made.” Kylie Jenner says she is a self-made billionaire. The relationship capital accrued by her family name didn’t play a part at all? Really?
