“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”

William Faulkner

This is where my skill intersects with my purpose:

Like most people these days, I am many things: In addition to founding Throwing Clay, I am a Corporate Lawyer, Director, Board Chairperson, Chartered Company Secretary registered as a corporate governance official in 80 countries, a specialist in Exchange Control, Corporate Law, Gambling law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Transaction Structuring and Compliance. Most of these skills are tested and improved daily in my role as Executive Head of Legal for a large group of companies held by a publicly listed entity.

My portfolio includes executive control of the Human Resources function. That role has made me keenly aware that more often than one would think, talented individuals fail to package and present themselves in the best possible light when they submit job applications. Research has shown that recruiters take an average 6 seconds to decide whether to give an application greater consideration. Too many talented people make submissions that simply don’t stand a chance at surviving the 6 seconds. I want to put my years on the receiving end of the CVs to help the job-seeker get a foot in.

These are things that can be found in a good mentor. The world is evolving and so are the concepts of convenience and efficiency. Knowing what I know, if I could have accessed the lessons of my career journey in a relatable, digestable, condensed, ready-made format for a reasonable fee, I would have done that in a heartbeat and it would have saved me a few bumps, tears and intense frustration. Sometimes, wisdom [and efficiency] is learning from the experiences of others. So to close the ambition gap, I offer

Finally, I have the privilege of advising the directors of over 60 companies, navigating difficult politics, observing, learning and sometimes leading. In all of that, I have become keenly tuned in to the key requirements for effective executive leadership. As such, for the C-Suite Executive I offer what I call agility consultation because agility is the only way to thrive in an industrial revolution.
